Of the 3 small islands lying immediately off Saint-Pierre Harbor,
Ile aux
Marins is the largest and provides Saint-Pierre with a certain amount of protection from sea and wind. This island was the site of the original community, chosen because it was a little closer to the fishing grounds. With many of its original buildings restored, the island is now a museum with most buildings including the old church open for viewing. On Tuesday afternoon we visited with the dinghy and

enjoyed an afternoon of visual bliss.
